![]() Wargames such as Fantasy Wars+Elven Legacy and Fantasy General 2 offer nice unit progression so peasant becomes super paladin. As for strategy-RPG (I assume you include regular units into RPG part) TBS there are not that much of them. And while there are enough japanese SRPGs (Fire Emblem etc., and yes I have played Lost Eidolons) I also really like more western focussed SRPGs that combine a narrative campaign with map conquest, which Age of Wonders was.until recently.Īnd with the ones you suggested.I kinda didn't enjoy any of those (Blackguard and Divinity have worlds and characters I didn't like and Pathfinder is just too overwhelming for me, as someone who doesn't really play Pen&Paper RPGs.). I'm actually into quite a bit of things (though not really into 4x stuff that is just 4x stuff, but something I do like a lot are Strategy-RPGs. I'll probably buy them anyways at some point (though probably not day 1) but I find it a shame that so many of these game have to become 4x(ish) games. Though I still wonder why AoW 4 does away with an actual narrative campaign. I think I played Eador and Thea but they are essentially very similar to the afformentioned Conquest of Eo if I remember correctly. Legends of Eisenwald is something I need to look into, thanks! I like Endless Legend (the endless games are the only real 4x games I actually enjoy). Legends of Eisenwald offers campaign with choices.Įndless Legend, Eador and Thea have campaigns with story, but they also are sandboxy: Endles Legend is still more of 4x, Eador has many events and choices with multiple endings but story mostly happens between shard battles, Thea is full on story but has card based combat which is not everyones cup of tea.
